Thurston Energy exists to make it easy for you to take action to save money, save energy and reduce climate impacts by reducing your energy usage at home and at work.
Started in January of 2010, Thurston Energy is a local program, run as a partnership of the Thurston Economic Development Council (EDC) and the Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT). Thurston Energy embodies this combination of expertise and experience in business and sustainability. Staff, board members, and volunteers of both of these organizations provide leadership, guidance, and assistance to Thurston Energy efforts.
Our mission is to help members of our community create energy savings, renovate their homes and businesses, and protect our environment all at the same time, by providing a one-stop trusted resource of information, project planning and scheduling. Thurston Energy measures the results of energy efficiency implementations in terms of jobs created, energy saved, dollars saved and reduction of carbon footprint.

Building a Green Market Economy
Here at Thurston Energy, we have developed an innovative program to help local business and home owners pursue a venerable concept – doing more with less, specifically using less energy.
Over the past decade or so, there has been a lot of talk around the country about the emerging “green market”, and not much explanation of what that is or how we can integrate “green” into our local economy. We are in the process of building a true green market economy in Thurston County right now. Not as out-there as cold fusion, the process begins with energy efficiency, by providing homeowners and businesses with the information they need to make informed decisions about their energy use and helping them to become energy efficient. We have assembled the resources to get our customers on the Pathway to Savings: local, qualified contractors that assess energy waste and make upgrades; partnerships with local utilities, municipalities and community organizations to strengthen our community’s commitment to energy efficiency; local lending institutions that can help make the investment possible. Together we’ll make the green market economy a reality here in Thurston County.
Thurston Energy is funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, in order to create jobs and save energy right here in Thurston County, WA. It is one of 8 Community Efficiency Pilot grants from the Washington Department of Commerce with technical support from Washington State University Energy Extension Program. Our intention is to make to make the program sustainable beyond that period through additional revenue and funding sources.
