South Sound Parent to Parent (SSP2P) is built from a network of families who have experienced the unique joys and challenges of parenting children with special needs.  SSP2P pledges all families caring for someone with special needs will receive the support and resources they need to feel empowered, encouraged and supported.

The non-profit organized in 1987 by parents of children with disabilities and professionals who work with them.  Services were made available to assist the families in adjusting to the extra demands of parenting a child with a disability or chronic illness.  The group also recognized that parents of children with developmental disabilities or chronic illnesses could be a tremendous help to each other.

Parents of children with a disability or illness can offer each other something that other types of support cannot --- shared experiences. They are the only ones who truly understand what it feels like to have a child born with or develop a disability or illness.

SSP2P is the Local Lead Agency and Regional Provider Agency for the Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) program in Thurston, South Mason and Grays Harbor Counties. A variety of professional services are offered tailored to the individual needs of your family including Family Resources Coordination and direct services for children ages Birth to Three.

Early intervention is a system of services that helps children from birth to three with developmental delays or disabilities.  At SSP2P, we understand the challenges and worry from a parent's perspective and are here to help and provide specific resources for you and your child.

The guidance and supports offered by SSP2P to parents raising a child with a special needs are intended to increase family strengths and enhance child development ensuring families have the capacity to rebound from adversity.

One-on-one parent matches offer an unparalleled type of support through shared experiences from a trained, volunteer Helping Parent mentor.  Social gatherings create bonds, connect families and empower parents. SSP2P also offers support groups, educational workshops for parents and professionals, toy and equipment loans, resource library, and so much more.

Raising a child with special needs can be tremendously isolating and you are not alone.  If you are caring for a person with special needs and would like to be connected with SSP2P and others in the community, we can help!
